In the district Narsinghpur, people belonging to all castes &
creeds, live harmoniously, kshatrias are the main class among them. The Kaurav,
Lodhi,Kirar, Rajpoot & Gurjar classes are very hard working & live peacefully
basically engaged in agriculture & farming. The society here comprises of mainly the
Hindus, but even the Muslim & Christian people from other religions also live with the
feeling of brotherhood & unity here. There is no sign of any communal hatred here.
In this district, people respect all the religions. Festivals
like Deepawali,Holi,Eid, Gurunanak Jayanti, Mahaveer Jyanti & Paryushan parve are
celebrated in a gorgious number. People love the story of Ramayan, & often Ramayan
mandal, manas sammelans, religious lectures are organized in villages.
People live simple living here & ware clothes like Dhoti,
Kurta, Bandi & put a Gamcha on shoulders. Even in the rural as well as in urban areas
people ware Pant, Shirt, & Pajama. But since people in villages with agricultural
background put on Dhoti & Kurta.
The food habits of the people basically comprise vegetarian food,
& liking towards non vegetarian food is not much. People in this district are having
qualities like simplicity, honesty & are inculcated with moral & spiritual
thoughts. Approx.75% population are engaged farming or are agricultural labors. Remaining
people are engaged in small-scale industries or business or are serving.
One particular feature of the people of this area to that they loves a feeling of
self-prestige & they are emotionally attached with this feeling. It is with this being
of self pride & prestige people of this district fought during fight for independence,
it is the feelings which often leads to family fights & personal enmity.

Folk Dances and songs

Rakshabandhan, Holi, Dusherra etc are the
festivals which has got religious conviction and social importance . During Sawan people
dances while singing serra and rachchre. |
In the month of Phagun on the Holi occassion
people sings rahi and fagi.At the time
of Deepawali Aahir wore a special type costume madeup of nets which is covered by peacocks
feathers and Kaudies. After Worship of Gowadhana (Lord Krishna)
Aahir sings and dances. On the ocassions of Tribal marriages men and women both performs Karma
and Saitaan dance. Similarly Kachchies do Virha,
Kahars do Sajaai, Kirars do Bilwari.
According to Hindu Calender that is Vikram Sanwant Ramnavami is
the first festival of the year which falls in Chaitra Month. which is ofcourse first moth
of hindu calender. Actually this is known as Nau-Durga because of nine days continuous
worship of Goddess Durga along with fasting growing Jaware. On the last day that is on
Navami people took these Jaware with a procession and do Visarjana in different ponds and
rivers. People celebrates Lord Rams birthday very grandly. In rural area Akhti
festival has got an extra importance because from this day only agriculure year
begins it is celebrated on Vaishakh sudi Akshay tritiya. Shravan sudi has
Nagpanchami festival. Kajaliyan celebrated on second day after Rakshabandhan. In this
people exchange kajaliyan with their friends and relatives in mark of respect.Bhadra month
Krishan Pakshs sixth day married women celebrates Harchat (Halashti) , in which they
wish for their childrens and husbands safety and prosperity. Pola observed
after 15 days from Janamashtami i.e. on Partipada when bullocks are worshiped. On Bhadra
Sudi tritiya women do fasting (not even taking water) for 24 hours, which is called
Teeja on this day they worship Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvathi and wishes for
her husbands prosperity. Other major festivals are Dusherra, Deepawali, Holi and
Rang Panchami that is celebrated with full traditional way and joy.
Apparel and Ornaments

Dhoti Kurta, Dhoti Kameez, Bandi and Gamcha on
Shoulder are the main dress men wears in rural areas.Kaste Sarees are very common among
rural women. |
whereas in towns and cities trousers, Shirts, suits are in
fashion. Service class ladies wears Salwar suits . In general people love to have gold and
silver. Ornament madeup of Silver and Gold like Laung, Nathani, Ear-rings, chain,
mangalsutra, finger-ring, Comb, Bankada, Kardhan, Payal, Todal, Lachche, Bichiya and
Machali are very common and in fashion.
Tattoo (Godana)
Godana is a very common tradition and popular among the tribal
women and children. Women belives that this is a compulsory for their well being and
fortunate and a way of beauty treatment. Godana is an activity which is done by the help
of needles inked by some solutions called 'shusish' with
this designs, letters, impressions will be made permanent on the body. This is a true
evidence of the creativity and fantacy of the tribal people in their artistic
skills.
People and culture :-
In the district mostly all caste of people lives in. Residents of this district are very
hard working, peace loving, farmers life loving. People respect each others
Caste,Religion,Customs & traditions. They celebrates each others festivals with full
communal harmony and unity. Which clearly shows unity in diversity. the main language of
the distirct is Hindi but the local language known as narsinghpuria is very popular. Here
life is very simple. Living standard in not a show off kind. People are very simple,
loving, kind, affectionate. Eating habits are mainly Vegetarian and found not much
interested towards Non-vegetarian.
